Team Penning 2015 Wrap Up

Last weekend saw a hive of activity at Dalgety Showground - Team Penning, Show Shear and Saddle Up Sunday with the Stockmen's Time Trial which once again delivered a great community event with new contenders coming from Coolamon, Moruya, Bairnsdale Vic and Buchan Vic. So news of a good time and fun spreads fast. Of course there were winners, but everyone who entered probably felt like winners because so many of the contenders for Team Penning came within a hairs breadth of getting those pesky cattle in the pen. But it was just the time that beat them.

The Show Shear Novice winner was Sammi-Jo Thompson, it was great to see her win this event, as she had entered and placed 3rd last year. The fact that she decided to throw her hat in the shearing pen again to go up against the guys is great to see. Hopefully we might have a few more ladies entering this event next year GO GIRL POWER. She is a very good looking young Mum and works at Little Stars Preschool Berridale. Shearing is in her Thompson blood with all of her family and extended family among the best shearers on the Monaro, her cousin Brett Thompson came 1st in the intermediate and 3rd in the Seniors. The Brownlies did Bombala proud again placing in the Novice and Open Section. Ben Brotherton from Cathcart 2nd in the Seniors. Terry Byrnes travelled over 4 1/2 hours from Trunkey Creek (near Bathurst) and won the open and had placed in previous year's. Warren Cole from Bairnsdale won the Seniors so it shows people just love this event and are prepared to travel. Cooma based shearers placed well in all division but especially in the intermediate section.

The Show society wish to thank all those who participated but more so those people who made these event happen as many of these key people were involved in both day so massive amount of dedication went in to making these events happen not to mention the prior weeks of planning. So a great deal of thanks go to Rose McCormick(Tumut) who call the Team Penning event being back up by the Fur Williams and the Mez and Scott Bradley Family, the Team Penning Committee of Joanne and Mick Miners, Brendan and Maryann Rudd, Bev and Pat O'Ryan, Brett Aitchison, with assistance from Kerry "Woody" Woodhouse, Bruce Hawkins, Milton Golby, Charlie Miners, Harry O'Connor, Mark Pendergast, not to forget the rest of the support team and riders who brought the cattle in. Then there is the Show Shearers organisers - Robert and Shelly Thompson, Brett and Blake Thompson and all their extra helpers, along with Jacko Thompson, Mick Keen, and George Giagios. On Saddle Up Sunday we had Karen White, Kate Heeley, Casey Payne, Maryanne Rudd (sick as a dog - too much overseas holiday), Clare Mansell, Bev O'Ryan assisting the youngest of riders and recording results. Another colossal vote of thanks to all that donated eggs, baked and helped in the kiosk - Karyn Seager, Rick and Ange Blyton, Alan Wilson, Lisa Payne, Pearl Buckland, Julie Hedger, Nic O'Connor, Nat Reid all worked both days along with Noel Buckland, Sue Winchester and Kira, Kerrie Douglas, with Ian Doust and Trish Gerny doing preparation and buttering on Fri, and Marg Thompson sorting and clean up on Monday. Thank you to all sponsors Cooma Rural, South East Rural, Bush Basics, Camping World, Office Play, Jindabyne Butchery, Nick Kirshner Property and Livestock. If we have missed thanking anyone who was involved in the day donít worry as we will thank you in person in November when we hold our thank you bbq for both the Show and this weekend's events, this date is still to be sorted.

The weather was quite kind being much better than expected for the Saturday and an absolute pearler on the Sunday which is the way is has always been for the past 6 years since 2009 when these events 1st started. The meat came from Jindabyne Butchery with the kiosk doing over 200 steak sangas each day and they were to die for, just melting in your mouth with plenty of repeat customers, and the usual homemade scones with lashings of cream and jam to follow. Who could ask for a better day, great people, great food and great in your calendar for 2016.
